MCIF report of the AMSUS Congress 2011 in San Antonio, Texas
The 117th AMSUS Congress held in San Antonio, USA was again a resounding success. Over 3000 attendees and military medical healthcare professionals from a broad range of specialities came together in Texas. 22 countries were represented by over 100 attendees from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Iraq, Ireland, Japan, Kosovo, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom and Vietnam. As key note speaker, the US Secretary of Veterans Affairs stressed that international cooperation in the area of veteran health was an important work field for the future. Representing the international attendees, the Canadian Surgeon General, Commodore, MC, Hans Jung (MD), delivered the traditional international key note speech.

More than 400 lectures and, as a first, a hands-on course offered the attendees a wide range of interesting learning material. In best AMSUS tradition, everyone was invited to attend the annual Gala Dinner. During the dinner, 24 awards were presented recognizing excellence of Federal Health professionals of the US Forces.

The congress concluded with the announcement of the 118th AMSUS Congress which will be taking place on 11 – 16 November 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona.
